Hey let's talk running backs today… ACC returns just 1 1,000-yard rusher (Shipley) and just 3 RBs w/100+ carries who averaged 5+ y/rush (Shipley, Jordan & Benson). Still, some upside with a number of other backfields, particularly if a few teams have real OL improvement… π§΅

Among teams with at least 90 designed runs vs. top-40 defenses (by SP+) last year, only Michigan had a better yards/rush than Louisville (6.0) and no team had a higher rate of 10+ yard runs than the Cards (19.1%).

But what does the Lville ground game look like w/o Malik? Overall I'm not worried, but red zone is a ?. Over past 2 years, Malik had 41% of Cards' RZ carries & 65% of their RZ TDs. He scored on 1/3 of his RZ runs. That's pretty ridiculous.

Louisville ranked 2nd in yards/designed run vs. top-40 defenses last year. FSU was third (5.78) and Pitt was fourth (5.74). Flip side: NC State (3.09), BC (3.23) and Wake (3.44). Virginia had just 54 carries vs. top-40 Ds but avg woeful 2.41 per.
